It is incumbent upon religious people to demonstrate that it is possible to find joy in living simply and modestly, generously sharing one’s surplus with those suffering from want.

General Intercessions

Although - as modern city-dwellers - our experience is very different from that of people living in the prophet Ezekiel’s time, the image of the shepherd in today’s first reading can still both comfort and challenge us           . . .  (pause)

So we pray that leaders in the church - both those in official jobs, like priests and bishops, and many others, will help us to keep showing Christ’s tenderness and care to those who need it most in our world          . . . (pause)

May we see Christ’s loving face,
All: May we be an icon of his grace

As this year’s recipient of the Sydney Peace Prize is acknowledged in the coming week, let us pray for those working to end violence against women, and to help build understanding amongst people of different faiths, in places like Palestine, the Congo, and the Sudan           . . .    (pause)

May we see Christ’s loving face,

All:  May we be an icon of his grace

We pray for our representatives at all levels of political life in this country, including those who will ensure pensioners, families and members of remote communities will benefit from the special payments to be made over the Christmas period      . . . (pause)

May we see Christ’s loving face

All:  May we be an icon of his grace

We pray for members of the group who have accepted responsibility for keeping us alert to ways to live sustainably in the environment - both close to home and in the wider world            . . .    (pause)

May we see Christ’s loving face

All: May we be an icon of his grace
