Furthermore, our Churches can work together in drawing attention to humanity's responsibility for the safeguarding of creation. In this regard, I express once again my appreciation for the many valuable initiatives supported and encouraged by Your Holiness which have borne witness to the gift of creation.

"Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible;
and suddenly you are doing the impossible." Words attributed to St Francis
The Franciscans are currently working with Catholic Earthcare in developing a formation programme for the Friars to deepen their understanding of environmental issues and to experience this ecological conversion. They are also working with CarbonSystems Australia to develop the tool for gathering information/data and in order to calculate the energy used by the Province and to evaluate our practices. A long and slow process of education but one that each member of the Province is committed too.
ACTIVITIES:
Using the ASSISI audit tool, the Fransicans are undertaking environmental assessments of all properties owned by the OFM Province of the Holy Spirit (Australia and NZ). This will include using the ASSISI model for Formation of the Friars and Poor Clare Sisters and gathering data using the ECIS tool working with Carbon Systems Australia to make informed decisions about our ecological footprint and sustainability.
The Franciscans have overseen the installation of water tanks on most of the OFM properties and the involvement in eco-pastoral projects in Timor Leste.
