So, as Christ's followers, let us reach out to make sure that all people in communities in our country have their basic and inalienable human rights promoted by their political representatives, as we decide how to vote in the coming elections . . . (pause)

All: Lord, hear our prayer
As we pray for leaders, religious and civic, that they will always be guided by principles such as those outlined in our Bishops' Election Statement, issued in the past week, let us pray for the strength to keep choosing to respect others, and discover how to trust people whose beliefs sometimes challenge ours

Remembering the return of their land to the Gurindji People at Wave Hill Station, thirty five years ago tomorrow, let us pray for a 'respect for country' similar to theirs, to help us how to ensure environments where we live remain safe and secure for those who will live in them after us . . . (pause)

On this anniversary of the end of the Second World War, let us pray for those in places still rent by conflict which keeps their lives and futures uncertain, including people in the Darfur region of the Sudan, those living under a dictatorship in Fiji, and others, caught up in disputes along the Israeli/Lebanese border . . . (pause)
