Today, the beginning of National Youth Week, let us pray for young people in Australia – both close to where we live and work – and in the most remote communities of our country. May they grow strong and resilient, and confident in the talents they can use to help us build a caring society . . . (pause)

In the coming week, as we observe the anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II, we pray that leaders of churches and faith communities in our world will help us focus on ways to build trust and respect within the human family, and to find ways to peace . . . (pause)

Let us pray for people currently involved in researching ways to ensure sustainable environments are available for land and sea creatures, including native fauna in this country, and endangered species like minke whales in the Antarctic Ocean . . . (pause)

Next Wednesday – Bandaged Bear Day – we remember those who work to help sick children recover. We pray, too, for children in our parish communities, and parents and teachers, as they begin preparing them for First Reconciliation and Holy Communion . . . (pause)
