General Intercessions
As by-standers - watching Jesus continue a journey with friends in today's Gospel reading - we are struck by the words of a blind man, calling for his help: 'My teacher, let me see again!' . . . (pause)
So, let us - as his followers today - ask for the same gift they showed, and reach out to encourage people who are challenged by sickness, feeling cut off, or unable to see a way ahead in their lives . . . (pause)
Lord, hear us,
All: Lord, hear our prayer
Let us also pray for the persistence to back leaders - in churches and at all levels of political life - who struggle to balance strongly-held, compassionate values with sometimes volatile and biased public opinion about people with no homes, such as refugees and asylum-seekers . . . (pause)

All: Lord, hear our prayer
As the debate continues in the Senate - on the timing and extent of legislation on emissions' trading, ahead of December's Copenhagen summit - we pray for the good sense to live our own love of the earth in simple, effective ways, where we live and work . . . (pause)

All: Lord, hear our prayer
Today, Children's Day in Australia, and tomorrow, on Teachers' Day, let us continue to pray for children and young people in our communities, and for teachers and others who will be beside them as they take new steps in their lives. We pray, too, for our pilgrim friends, still on their journey . . . (pause)
