Today, Clean Up Australia Day, is also the beginning of Landcare Month in our country, the tenth anniversary of an international treaty to ban landmines, and Nuclear-Free and Independent Pacific Day . . . (pause)
So let us pause, and hold in prayer all who rely on the goodwill and persistent effort of others to survive in an increasingly precarious global environment

Lord, hear us
All: Lord, hear our prayer
Like the people pictured surviving the devastation of flood in today’s Old Testament reading, and Jesus – stranded in a dry, isolated place – we are aware, right now, of how much many people rely on us for care and support
. . . (pause)
So, we pray for the strength and persistence – we – and people of faith everywhere – need, to be there for them . . . (pause)

We pray for women – in our country and in many parts of the world – who shoulder major responsibility for the everyday life and safety of family and community members . . . (pause)

Let us pray for all who are mourning the death of loved ones, including Sara Pereira, in East Timor, and other members of her family, whose mother – Laurentina – died a few days ago . . . (pause)
